Focus Launcher — Privacy Policy

Summary

Focus Launcher keeps all of your usage data — which apps you open, how long you spend in them, your focus sessions, your daily streak — on your device. Nothing about your individual app use ever leaves the device.

Optionally, with your consent, the app sends a small amount of anonymous data about which onboarding steps and product screens you reach. This is so the developer can see where the app works and where it gets stuck. You can decline this at first launch and turn it off at any time in Settings.

What data does Focus Launcher store on your device?

Focus Launcher stores the following data locally on your device to provide its core functionality:

• App categories — Which apps you've marked as essential or distracting.
• App open logs — When you opened a distracting app, and how long you spent in it. Includes the app's package name, timestamp, and session duration.
• Focus sessions — When you started a focus session and how long it lasted.
• Daily results — Whether you stayed under your daily limit each day, used for the streak display.
• Preferences — Your settings choices: daily limit, cooldown duration, quiet hours, clock format, and alternative action suggestions.

This data is stored in a local database and shared preferences on your device. None of it is transmitted off the device.

Optional anonymous usage data

If you consent during onboarding (or leave the toggle enabled — it defaults to on), Focus Launcher sends anonymous usage events to help the developer understand how the app is used in aggregate.

What is collected:

• Which onboarding steps you reach and complete
• Which permissions you grant (accessibility, overlay, exact alarms, default launcher)
• Whether the pause screen ("gate") was shown, and whether you chose to open the app or back out
• Whether you started, completed, or abandoned a focus session
• Coarse-grained device information automatically attached by the analytics SDK (Android version, device model, locale, app version, screen size)
• A randomly generated anonymous device identifier (not linked to your Google account, email, or any personal information)

What is not collected — ever, regardless of this toggle:

• The names of apps you have installed
• The names of apps you've marked as distracting or essential
• The names of apps you open, or when you open them
• Anything you type in the app (search queries, alternative-action text)
• Your IP address (not stored after geographic processing)
• Your name, email, account information, or any personal identifier

Who processes this data: The events are sent to PostHog, an analytics service. Focus Launcher uses PostHog's EU-hosted infrastructure (servers located in the European Union). PostHog is the data processor; the developer of Focus Launcher (Delmar Labs) is the data controller. PostHog's privacy policy is available at posthog.com/privacy.

Legal basis (GDPR): Consent. You may withdraw consent at any time from Settings → Privacy → Anonymous usage data. Withdrawal stops new events from being sent immediately. Previously collected anonymous events remain in PostHog unless you request deletion (see "Data deletion" below).

Encryption: All events are transmitted over HTTPS.

Accessibility service

Focus Launcher uses an Android accessibility service to detect when distracting apps are opened from outside the launcher (such as from notifications, widgets, or other apps). The service observes which app is in the foreground and shows a pause screen before distracting apps. It does not read screen content, keystrokes, or any text displayed in other apps. The package name of the foregrounded app is processed only on your device and is never sent off the device.

Display over other apps

Focus Launcher uses the "Display over other apps" permission to show its pause screen on top of distracting apps so it cannot be bypassed. This overlay only appears when you open an app you've marked as distracting.

Data sharing

The data Focus Launcher stores on your device is not shared with anyone. If you have enabled optional anonymous usage data (see above), the only third party involved is PostHog, acting as a data processor under instruction from the developer. PostHog does not share, sell, or use this data for advertising. There are no advertising networks, no data brokers, and no other third parties involved.

Data deletion

You can delete the data Focus Launcher stores on your device at any time from Settings → Reset all data within the app. Uninstalling the app also removes all on-device data.

If you have enabled optional anonymous usage data and want previously sent events removed from PostHog's servers, email the address below. Because these events are anonymous and not linked to your name or account, deletion is best-effort and may rely on approximate identifiers (such as country and install date) you provide in your request. Anonymous events are retained by PostHog only for as long as needed for product analysis and are purged automatically thereafter.

Children's privacy

Focus Launcher does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app does not require an account and does not collect personal information from any user.

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. If the change is material — for example, a change in what is collected or who processes data — Focus Launcher will display an in-app notice on next launch so you have the opportunity to review and adjust your consent.
